Losing People All The Time

You meet someone you like, then barely two hours later the two of you say 'goodbye' knowing full well that you'll never meet again! You are not conditioned for that are you? You are the product of your ancestors and for millennia surely, they must have lived their lives through in small groups where a person never greeted another who shortly-after 'disappeared' and was never seen again. Not ever did that happen surely.

The very idea of forging a wonderful friendship with someone over several years, and then to have them move on, suddenly disappear, is even worse. Don't even mention the pain of having a lover leave you. Am I missing something here? Every disappearance is a small sadness. How do you deal with all these small sadnesses? There are hundreds of them every year of your lives. Am I to stop in?
