M. lives in a town outside of which there exists an island where the town's unwanted solitary men go to stand and watch birds flying away over the marsh. Some refuse to accept that they are unwanted at all (men with delusions) and the townsfolk must, with silent irritation written on their faces, push them to the very base of the island.
