Love Imbalance

The girl he loves is often subject to the surreptitious gaze that dwells upon her, though she pretends to be unaware of it for she knows she lacks experience and is consequently insecure. His eyes keep returning to her when she is preoccupied elsewhere; it is a fascination that is a tyrant over him. But if she is close, ah then he will stare at his shoes and drum his school tennis-racket against his toe. And when he speaks, by force of control, there will be not a tremor nor a catch in his voice. And all the while she knows, and rightly couldn't care less.
