The Power Of Wish In Children

There is an old lady who walks around the weekly market here in Thailand tossing a tennis-ball into the air and snatching it back with the same hand. That's all she does, and she does it all the time.

Bur today there is also an annoying little boy who plays aeroplanes with his arms outstretched. Now I'm sure we've all heard of the power of wish in children, and how some children, barely interested at all in aeroplanes themselves but fascinated by the way they have a light that flashes at the end of each wing, therefore stretch their arms out from that moment on and wish their hands into aeroplane lights. Surely? And how every once in a while the sweet infant, albeit perhaps an old man by now and albeit after decades of wish, wakes up one morn to find his palms hardened over and flashing aeronautically? Are these men documented somewhere?

Well - what on earth wish did the infant old lady of the market have in her head, what is the old lady on the brink, perhaps, of becoming? I am watching that arm and its snatching hand with a unnatural intensity.
